The Play Lot Project
If I may be so bold as to borrow one of the most famous quotes
in American history, "I have a dream" . However,
it's not just my dream - it is also the dream of the Jones Center
Board, staff, volunteers, and community members. The dream
is to build a beautiful play lot across the street from our facility. This
dream includes a fenced in playground for the younger children
with colorful slides and swings, and a baseball field, multi-purpose
sports field, family picnic area, and a ¼ mile fitness path
for people of all ages.
The dream is possible, and with your help, it will be a reality. To
that point, Ronald McDonald House Charities has done their part
by donating $24,500 towards the dream. We hope that you,
too, can be a part of making this dream a reality.
When we say our dream is to "build" a play lot, we mean that literally. We
are soliciting the support of local dignitaries, businesses, organizations,
and individuals to donate expertise, time, equipment, finances,
goods and services to construct the play lot in April 2006. Our
kick-off date for the playground portion of the play lot is scheduled
for Saturday, April 22, 2006, at 9 AM. We invite you to be
a part of the opening ceremonies. Since many of the major
preparations will be done the previous day, we plan to complete
the playground and hold a dedication ceremony at 3:30 PM on April
22 nd . Lastly, we will have a formal Grand Opening
on Saturday, May 6th , at 10 AM. It would be our pleasure
for you to attend any or all of the above events.
We need volunteers to commit donations time, financial, and equipment
for this dream to come true. Some of the specific opportunities
are as follows: adoption of an apparatus, picnic table, pavilion,
or park bench, donation of large and small construction equipment
(dump truck, excavator, paving equipment, Bobcat/auger, storage
trailers), food and/or beverages, landscaping, safety and first
aid supplies.
Another way in which you can support this dream is through participation
in our Commemorative Brick Walkway fundraiser. We
are constructing a walkway leading to the playground with honorary
bricks. What
a wonderful way to honor loved ones (children, parents, organizations,
friends, or you) by placing their names along with other God loving
names on the "Walkway of Champions". Talk about
a lasting Christmas gift that keeps on giving, for $50 you cannot
not find a better or more fitting gift for the season. Each
brick purchase is accompanied with a certificate noting the placement
and inscription of their brick in the "Walkway of Champions".
